Exciting Sous Chef Opportunity at The Assembly House!
Position: Sous Chef, full-time Location: Norwich City Centre
We’re thrilled to be expanding our team at The Assembly House and are looking for an exceptional full-time Sous Chef to join us in what we believe is a one-of-a-kind role in the heart of Norwich.
What We're Not Looking For: Fine Dining Enthusiasts: If you’re all about tweezers and precision plating, this might not be the role for you. We value consistency, big flavours and speed of service above all.
Job Hoppers: We value commitment. If your CV is full of short stints, you’re not the chef for us. We’re seeking someone ready to stick with us, even through the tough weeks.
What We’re Looking For:
Top-Notch Organisational Skills: Someone who can order, organise, and deliver event sheets alongside our event chefs. A motivated team player.
Leadership: Run the pass, motivate the team, and enforce our top notch hygiene and allergen policies.
Dependability: We need someone who is absolutely dependable and enjoys coming to work—we don’t hire grumpy moaners!
Commitment to Excellence: Help us maintain our 5-star rating.
What You’ll Get: Approximately 40 to 42 hours per week: Straight shifts, very few late nights.
Bonuses and Gratuities: Because we believe in rewarding hard work.
Staff Meals: You’ve got to eat well to cook well! Staff meals on shift are free.
Documented Management Training: Full recorded training provided.
Supportive Environment: Work in an extremely busy but kind and caring kitchen.
What We Can Offer YOU:
We believe we run the busiest kitchen in the county, open every day, 365 days a year, but we also know how to maintain a great work-life balance. You’ll find:
No late-night finishes: At our busiest you’d be looking at a 9.30pm/10pm finish, and this isn’t a regular occurrence (other than Christmas!)
Everything works: Yes, that includes the kitchen equipment, meaning you can concentrate on what you do best: cooking!
Experienced leadership: Our kitchen management team has years of experience in some of the world’s finest hotels and decades of experience with our business.
What We Do at The House:
Afternoon Teas: We serve between 1,000 to 2,500 a week, often starting as early as 8.30am and going strong until 5pm.
Breakfast: For 30 residents every day of the week, plus walk-ins of up to 100.
Lunch: A focused menu featuring grazing boards, double-baked soufflés, fish platters, and more.
Events: We can host hundreds of guests at the House at multiple large functions and we are proud of our stunning weddings.
Christmas: Think dining igloos, multiple functions, and all-day festivities.
The Team: You’re Not Alone: The Assembly House employs 90 people, including a dedicated pastry team of 7.
Our Kitchen Team: Led by Executive Chef Julia Hetherton, who’s been with us for 7 years, the team includes 9 chefs and 7 full-time/part-time porters.
Salary: Circa £30-32k, reviewed annually.
